In the peak of summer the Montreal-based Charitas team joined other volunteers to distribute essential goods to vulnerable women in their community.

“We respond to the needs of women in precarious circumstances by offering a broad range of services in a safe, caring, and nonjudgmental environment, so that every woman may reach her full potential.” — Chez Doris

The team urges their holders to reach out and use Charitas as a resource to organize local events in other cities.

A turbulent cryptocurrency market is not deterring Charitas’ core team from standing firm in their commitment to help those in need, both locally and globally. On June 26th, the team delivered essential goods to various locations around Montreal. See a short video summary of our experience here.

In keeping to their mandate, Charitas is working with innovative and efficient organizations, both big and small, to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Chez Doris is a non-profit that aims to help vulnerable women by providing “a broad range of services…so that every woman may reach her full potential”.

Chez Doris’ growth has accelerated during this past year in an unprecedented fashion and the organization is struggling to tend to the needs of their drop-ins. This is the reason they are creating a new overnight lodging centre that requires approximately $1.5 million in funds to complete. The night shelter will comprise 22 beds. A third point of expansion will be to a residence building which will comprise 26 apartments and will be offered to the ladies, selected for housing, indefinitely, depending on their personal situation.

“Our drop-in program ensures that every woman that walks through our doors feels safe, respected and welcomed.” — Chez Doris

The organization is innovative and well-organized in their approach when helping women in precarious situations by “[helping] to alleviate loneliness, isolation, and depression by encouraging social interaction in a home-like environment.” They also employ many other services such as Housing, Clothing & Hygiene, Meal Program, Financial Administration Program, Urban Programming for Indigenous Peoples, Inuit Assistance Program, Physical & Mental Health Services, Educational & Socio-recreational Activities and Legal & Tax Clinics.

The Charitas team will continue to support this local initiative by offering their time to distribute goods, but also by organizing clothing drives and dining experiences to support the women who require Chez Doris’ services.

Charitas’ approach in supporting local community initiatives will complement the development of the upcoming donations platform. It will also provide a wealth of inside information regarding how volunteers are mobilized and how Charitas can organize their community to support causes they care about.

We are committed to creating an interactive experience for our holders and community members to help them increase community engagement. Use Charitas as a resource when organizing events and appearances in your own communities.
